  • Help Deaf people who have social or emotional problems which might not be because they are deaf. The social workers’ have understanding of BSL, Deaf culture and community which allows them to work directly with Deaf people about their problems.
  • Support Deaf people who have difficulties with understanding written English and who need communication support with other agencies e.g. Job Centre, council departments. We work closely with the Communication Support Service to arrange appropriate communication support.

How do we do it?
You can refer yourself, but we also get referrals from family and friends, audiologists, social workers, health visitors, GPs etc. After you are referred the social worker allocated your case will make a home visit for an initial assessment. Then we can provide:

  • Advice, support, counselling;
  • Access, liaison with, and advice to other services
  • Communication support and advocacy
  • Equipment (through referral to appropriate agencies) and benefits advice
  • Welfare Benefits checks and support with applying
  • Assessment of carer’s needs

Priority is given to those in greatest need and at most risk.

If you wish to contact us to discuss your situation there is a duty social worker available every weekday 9.30 -12.00 and 2-4.30. If you wish to come into the office it is best to contact us to book an appointment.
